[Lite] Layer management

Download in Discord Download on Boosty

This plugin provides flexible control over map layers: overlay custom images, adjust their order, scroll speed, parallax effects, repetition, and transparency. Perfect for creating dynamic backgrounds, atmospheric effects, and multi-layered scenes.

It is recommended to use this plugin together with the Region System plugin

General configuration features:

  1. Texture Enhancement —  an automatic scaling function that improves texture quality to its original resolution during various layer manipulations (e.g., camera zoom or window resizing).
  2. Hide Panorama — a function that hides the editor’s panorama during gameplay (works in all test-play modes).
  3. Maps — a list of maps, each containing an internal list of layers and their respective settings.

The map configuration looks like this:

  1. Note — a large text field for your comments, useful for noting map names or layer identifiers. With many maps or layers, notes help quickly locate the desired item.
  2. Map ID — field for specifying the map ID (the current map’s ID can be found in the editor's bottom panel).
  3. Layers — a list of layers to be displayed on the current map.

Each layer entry includes:

  1. Note — a large input field, helpful for naming the layer.
  2. Image — image/layer selection field.

IMPORTANT! All images must be placed in the path: ProjectFolder/img/layers/. Inside the layers folder, you may organize images freely (e.g., create subdirectories).

  3. Z-Index — the layer's position among other layers. Both negative and positive values can be set.

It is recommended to use index 0 for the layer the player walks on. For upper layers, index 5 is suggested. Parallax effects can be placed at your discretion. Below is a reference table of Z‑indexes for RPG Maker MZ to help you decide:

    Z‑Index Object Type Description
    0 Lower layer Background, tiles
    1 Middle layer Decor, tiles
2 Events If set below the player
3 Upper layer Объекты поверх персонажа
4 Characters and events Player and NPCs (default). Index may vary due to events; player index typically ranges from 2 to 5
5 Events If set above the player
6 Weather effects Rain, snow, leaves...
    7 Emotions Speech/thought bubbles
8 Animations Skill, attack, magic effects
9 UI Dialog windows, menus, inventory
    10 Mouse cursor
  4. Scroll Speed X and Y — sets the layer's movement speed. Values can be positive or negative. The larger the value, the faster the layer moves.

  5. Offset X and Y — sets the layer's positional offset (margin) relative to its default placement.

  6. Opacity — sets layer transparency, where 0 is fully transparent and 255 is fully opaque.

  7. Repeat — enables seamless tiling for repeating layers, such as fog, water, falling snow, etc. The layer image can be of any size; this setting creates a seamless effect.

  8. Parallax — parallax settings, including "Offset X and Y". Parallax enables the layer to move relative to the player, creating a depth effect – distant layers move slower, closer layers move faster.
